Srinagar, Dec 9 (UNI) People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Chief Mehbooba Mufti on Saturday feared that the Supreme Court's verdict on Article 370 on Monday might not come in favour of people of Jammu and Kashmir as police has started collecting the names of political workers.

“From last night, we are seeing names of the workers of different parties, especially the PDP, are being taken by personnel of police stations and it looks that the decision is to come which is not in favour of this country and Jammu and Kashmir, but only to further the BJP’s agenda,” the former CM told reporters in Anantnag.

“Some precautionary measures are being taken, which I regret. I want to tell the Supreme Court that your responsibility is not to project the BJP agenda but (your responsibility) is towards the integrity of the country and its constitution. You should have regard for that,” she said.

Mufti said the court’s decision should be simple and straight that the decision of August 5, 2019 was "illegal and unconstitutional."

“Supreme Court took a long five years to pronounce the verdict despite previous verdicts that had said Article 370 cannot be changed without consent of the state constituent assembly. So I think the decision should be simple that whatever was done on August 5, 2019 was illegal, unconstitutional, against Jammu and Kashmir and the promises made to the people here,” she said.

Earlier in her speech, the PDP President said the upcoming SC verdict is not solely about Article 370 but as a pivotal moment determining the future of India's identity.
